Laura Canning grew up in Craigavon, Northern Ireland, in the 1980s and 1990s. She wrote her first full-length novel aged fourteen, a manuscript that eventually became Taste the Bright Lights. The much-awaited sequel to this acclaimed first novel was published in May 2020 and an alternative sequel short in 11 June 2022 (bit.ly/slidinglisa). She also writes genre YA fiction under a pen name, with five novels published since March 2020.

Laura has a BA in English Lit and an MA in creative writing from Queen's University Belfast, and a PGDip in magazine journalism from City University London; she's published millions of words for newspapers, magazines and websites around the world. Extracurricular activities include reading, TV, travel and boxing.
 
Laura lives on a houseboat on the Thames with one human, one cat and two small bears. She spends part of each year in Melbourne, Australia, her favourite place in the world.
